CrossFit, a fitness regimen developed in the early 2000s, has dramatically changed the landscape of fitness and wellness. By integrating elements of strength, conditioning, and flexibility through high-intensity functional movements, CrossFit offers a comprehensive approach to health and fitness that is both challenging and rewarding. Dr. Rhonda Fitzpatrick, a notable figure in the field of sports medicine, has often highlighted the efficacy of CrossFit methodologies in promoting overall physical well-being. Here, we delve into the core principles of CrossFit, its unique blend of exercise modalities, and the philosophy underpinning its varied workouts, drawing on insights from experts like Dr. Fitzpatrick. The Core of CrossFit: Strength, Conditioning, and Flexibility CrossFit’s unique approach lies in its combination of strength training, cardiovascular conditioning, and flexibility exercises. How long have you been doing CrossFit? Who or what got you started? I’ve only been doing CrossFit for about a year now. My husband Patrick joined a year ago as well and I decided I wanted to tag along like a clingy child. And I’m still here. Tell us a little bit about yourself: (Family, career, hobbies, interests) I’m a thirty-year-old Colorado native who just graduated with my Master’s in Literature from CU Boulder (currently waiting to see if I get accepted into PhD programs). Before pursuing graduate school, I was a hairstylist for ten years. Currently, I am jobless and questioning every life decision (joking, kind of). What is your favorite memory at Alpine CrossFit? Meeting and befriending so many amazing people, people I would have never approach in a regular gym setting. I’ve never felt so welcomed in a space like this. What was your workout regimen...

How long have you been doing CrossFit? Who or what got you started? My first-ever class was in 2008. My rugby coach, Tom Brose (CrossFit DC), went to California and met some guy named Greg who taught him the CrossFit methodology. Took a long break from CrossFit starting in 2010 until I found CrossFit Defined in 2018. It was there I realized the power a strong community centered around a common goal can have. Tell us a little bit about yourself: (Family, career, hobbies, interests) I was born and raised in downtown Chicago, which is where I met my wife Katie (and fellow Alpiner!) in January 2018. We traded the skyscrapers of Chicago for the mountains and adventure of Colorado and we settled in Arvada in January 2020, shortly after we married. When not at the gym, we love to hike/snowshoe, camp, and explore the great state of Colorado with...

Our Athlete Spotlight for June is Zach Sitler!  You’ll typically find him in the 8:00 am class.  He works extremely hard, but you’d never know how much effort he’s putting in, because he always has a smile on his face! He pushes himself to be better every day and is always there to cheer on those who are working with him. We’re so happy to have Zach as our June Athlete of the Month and as an awesome part of this community. Congratulations Zach! How long have you been doing CrossFit? Who or what got you started? I have been at Alpine for about 5-6 months, but I did CrossFit before that in Portland and Seattle a few years ago before the pandemic. I got started because I would walk by this box in Seattle on the way to work and it looked like fun, so I walked in one day....

It’s been two years since our gym stopped specifying our programming to “prepare athletes for Murph”, we wanted to explain ourselves with the two most important reasons for this change… We Want to Maximize Your Willingness to Train From 2021 to 2022, Alpine saw an 11% performance increase in Murph times while deploying a constantly varied training philosophy. This is up 6% from what we saw in 2020 to 2021 when we were using a progressive program (Progressive programming is when you train the same exercises, formats, and/or time domains week after week while tweaking one variable – reps or load – in an effort to increase power output). Here’s what we’ve learned that explains this massive performance increase in our athletes – programming that is structured to increase athletes’ willingness and ability to train improves their work capacity across broad time and modal domains. Understanding this correlation, our leadership...

One of the best things you can do for your health this year is to get into shape. Whether you are trying to tone up to have more stamina or to look better in your clothes, the time to start working out is in the spring. The problem is, while the weather is still cold, you may not be interested in braving the elements to get a good workout. Let’s take a good look at where you can find some good gyms in Arvada. Where can you find good gyms in Arvada There are many benefits to joining a gym, including getting in shape, reducing stress, and staying protected from the elements. You’ve probably heard this time and time again, but working out regularly reduces the risk of heart disease, strokes, and even type II diabetes. Additionally, working out regularly helps regulate cortisol levels, and working out at the gym...
