How long have you been doing CrossFit? Who or what got you started?

I started CrossFit in 2021 after I moved from downtown. I had tried out a few other workout places, but they weren’t really giving me the workout I was looking for. Reluctantly, I decided I should give CrossFit a try haha. So with a quick Google search, I picked the gym that was .9 miles from my house and luckily landed at alpine!

Tell us a little bit about yourself: (Family, career, hobbies, interests)

I have a giant 110lb dog named Pantoufle aka toof (French for slipper (no, I don’t speak French lol)) who gets most of my spare time and energy. Hiking, exploring, dog friendly patios etc. It turns out having a big dog IS a personality trait! Otherwise, I spend my time doing house projects, hanging with friends, and going to comedy shows or concerts (anything but EDM/house, blasphemous to say in Denver, I know).Work wise, I’m an API product manager at Expedia. And my party trick is that I have a flat spot on my head so I’m really good at dancing while balancing drinks on my head.

What is your favorite memory at Alpine CrossFit?

Accidentally doing murph? I showed up to the Sunday class last year so I wouldn’t feel bad about skipping murph on Monday and then was told it was a murph make up class so I had to do it anyway. Maybe not my favorite moment, but just kind of classic. You can run but you can’t hide!  

What was your workout regimen before joining Alpine?

I’ve kinda tried it all. I guess most consistently I’ve been a runner, though.

How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?

Knowing I can pick up my dog in an emergency is a big comfort for me haha. But in all seriousness, CrossFit’s emphasis on getter stronger has been a game changer for me. In the past, working out had always been about losing weight and how can I burn the most calories, but no practical implications in my life. And I think the shift from “how can I change my body” to “what else can this body do” has given me a much more positive perspective on how I see myself.

If you could write a book, what would it be about?

One of my “how can I quit my job and get rich” schemes is actually to write a wildly successful children’s book series called “Toofie Tails” about Pantoufle’s antics. So get excited for that.

What category would you be least excited/most excited to see on Jeopardy?

Most excited: edible rhyme time

Least excited: Talkin Football

What was your first workout, and what did you think after doing it?

The first workout I did was a back squat strength piece and some sort of metcon. very humbling. seeing the weights people were putting up blew my mind and definitely struck my competitive nerve, so I was hooked pretty quickly. It was the exact stimulus that I was looking for.

What is your favorite and least favorite WOD?

Least favorite: anything with a barbell snatch

Favorite: anything that doesn’t include a barbell snatch

What are your favorite and least favorite movements?

Least favorite: snatch

Favorite: I like a good box jump or back squat

What advice would you give a newbie just getting started at Alpine CrossFit?

Don’t look at the workout before class. That way you can’t skip the days you’re doing movements you don’t like and can actually get better at them.
