What's Your Name?

Cat Hollibaugh

How long have you been doing CrossFit? Who or what got you started?

10 years

Tell us a little bit about yourself: (Family, career, hobbies, interests)

I’m a mom to two little boys (Holden 3, Hendrix 18 months). I work with kids from birth to 3 years old as a Speech Language Pathologist. I basically spend A LOT of time with toddlers. I love camping, concerts and traveling. I’m a huge Georgia Bulldog fan. I love my pit bull Lukin and will create some uncomfortable situations to just pet a pit bull that I might see (or any dog, really).

What is your favorite memory at Alpine CrossFit?

Just meeting everyone and everyone making me feel welcome.

What was your workout regimen before joining Alpine?

I’ve been doing CrossFit for a while. Growing babies from scratch was pretty cool.

How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?

CrossFit is probably what saved my life while delivering my first child. Things did not go well. I was doing CrossFit throughout my entire pregnancy. I think because my heart and body were fit before I was pregnant, it helped me survive and delivery a healthy baby. Also, I’ve met some amazing people through CrossFit. Many of them are now my lifelong friends. They have been there for my biggest life events. There’s something really special about choosing to show up and suffer together.

If you could write a book, what would it be about?

How to run as slow as possible: jogging.

What category would you be least excited/most excited to see on Jeopardy?

Anything food or medical related is my jam. For pretty much every other category, I’m just blindly guessing.

What was your first workout, and what did you think after doing it?

It was 10 rounds of running, pull-ups and maybe something else. I did 5 rounds and still finished after everyone else. I was so nervous. I was using the largest band possible for pull-ups and felt pretty defeated and out of shape. But every time I went out to run, someone was telling me “good job” and giving me a high five when they passed. That’s when I knew I could do it. People didn’t care if I was so slow. They were there suffering too. I’ve been doing it ever since.

What is your favorite and least favorite WOD?

Favorite: DT. Least favorite: anything with running and lots of burpees.

What are your favorite and least favorite movements?

Favorite: hang cleans. Least favorite: running and burpees.

What advice would you give a newbie just getting started at Alpine CrossFit?

Just show up. You will get fitter. It may not seem like it at first, but one day, you will reach up and get your first pull-up. And it will feel awesome. Plus, you’re going to meet some really badass people along the way.
