Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT? WHO OR WHAT GOT YOU STARTED?
A: Since June-ish. I was getting bored with basic gym bro workouts, and one of my co-workers was really into CrossFit. We were stationed in Sicily and didn't have access to a well equipped gym, but he tried teaching me some of the basic movements. Came back to the states and tried doing it on my own through YouTube and it just wasn't working, so I found Alpine.
Q: TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF: (FAMILY, CAREER, HOBBIES, INTERESTS)
A: I grew up in a really small ranching community in northern Wyoming. Played all the sports growing up, and went on to play D3 basketball for a year before joining the Navy. Did that for 10 years and played/coached basketball there as well. 10 years was enough. Really thankful for all the traveling it allowed me to do, and all the sweet friends I met along the way. Now I work for a landscaping company that mostly plants trees. I'm enrolled in college full time majoring in Exercise Science, and just completed my minor in Nutrition. No idea what I'm gonna do with it. In my free and non-covid affected time I coach high school and club volleyball out of Westminster High.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: Throwing up
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR WORKOUT REGIMEN BEFORE JOINING ALPINE?
A: Your typical back/bi squat day/chest routine that wasn't working.
Q: HOW HAS CROSSFIT AFFECTED YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?
A: It's definitely made me feel a sense of friendship and community. Sometimes it feels hard for me to get out and socialize but my ideals and values and hobbies all align with the majority of Alpine people and it's a good feeling to be a part of it. It's made me stronger and healthier, and it's fun to notice personal growth..
Q: IF YOU COULD WRITE A BOOK, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
A: "How to teach your brain to be a human again after 10 years of military service"
Q: WHAT CATEGORY WOULD YOU BE LEAST EXCITED/MOST EXCITED TO SEE ON JEOPARDY?
A: Least excited: anything to do with math. Most excited: Alex Trebek descending from Heaven like the angel he is. RIP.
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST WORKOUT, AND WHAT DID YOU THINK AFTER DOING IT?
A: I don't think it was my very first workout, but the first Saturday workout I did was the one in memory of George Floyd "I can't breathe". It was so intense in so many different aspects but used for necessary awareness. It was really hard but I felt good and a sense of purpose after doing it.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE WOD?
A: Favorite: something focusing on running and accumulating strength. Least favorite: gymnastics as a whole. literally anything with TTB included.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENTS?
A: Favorite: Jerks! Snatch is growing on me. (this week, answer will be different next week) Least favorite: Rowing. I would rather run 2 miles than row 2 meters.
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEWBIE JUST GETTING STARTED AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: Don't be too hard on yourself. Allow yourself time to progress and understand the movements. It's not going to happen over night. If every time you try and attempt a muscle up and you wanna cry after, that's normal.
