What's Your Name?
How long have you been doing CrossFit? Who or what got you started?
Started in February 2021. Crossfit is something I have always wanted to do and be apart of, but due to my previous job before moving to Denver it was not possible (I lived in a mining town middle of nowhere Arizona). The two things I knew about Crossfit that initially caught my interest were its intense varied workouts and the community it creates.
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am 30 years young and married to my amazing wife Kristy (woot woot 3 years strong next week). My father was in the Navy when I was younger, so I grew up all over the world, but I call Milwaukee Wisconsin my home. I am fortunate to have a fun and engaging career, I am a Senior Mine Engineer at an underground molybdenum mine in Empire. Outside of the gym I spend most of my free time playing competitive disc golf. This year I qualified for the National Amateur Disc Golf Championships in Austin Texas and currently ranked #7 amateur in the state. I plan to enter in few professional tournaments in the 2022 season! I am also a fantasy baseball and football fanatic; I love the statistics aspects of sports.
What is your favorite memory at Alpine CrossFit?
Definitely Murph back in May. I have never trained for anything maybe other than a 5k race since my high school wrestling days so having a purpose to workout was invigorating. I signed up for the last Murph session and came early to watch and did not realize how special the event was to Alpine and the Crossfit community. Most of the gym was there crushing the workout and brought their friends and family to join in on the action. Shout out to the coaches and programming because I thought I killed the workout... maybe next year I will wear a weight vest. Afterwards some of the guys and I went out to get Bonfire Burrito and some cold beverages to celebrate! Also shout out to 5:30PM class, its always memorable.
What was your workout regimen before joining Alpine?
I was just doing my same old repetitive workouts at 24 hour fitness which created minimal motivation for my fitness.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?
I feel great and sleep like a rock.
If you could write a book, what would it be about?
Great question... I am no subject matter expert on anything but I think I can muster up something like: "5 ways to Live a Stress and Drama Free Life"
What category would you be least excited/most excited to see on Jeopardy?
Most Excited: Anything Fantasy Sports related Least Excited: Business Ethicssss (Billy Madison accent)
What was your first workout, and what did you think after doing it?
Well I joined in the middle of the open programing so it was probably some awful 30 min EMOM with every Crossfit facet. I thought to myself.... is every workout like this and I hope I can so this confidently one day. I remember Thad telling me "you basically joined at the worst possible time" so that made me feel a little bit better.
What is your favorite and least favorite WOD?
Favorite WOD: some kind of running+machine+ and dumbbell/kettlebell grinder Least Favorite WOD: TBD
What are your favorite and least favorite movements?
Favorite Movement: Am I allowed to say Thrusters? (the law says no-Seth) Least favorite: anything with OHS or HSPU (still getting used to those movements)
What advice would you give a newbie just getting started at Alpine CrossFit?
Once your body gets acclimated, go to class as much as possible (4-5 times a week). Don't be afraid to ask for extra help or ways to scale the workout. Most importantly have fun and get to know your classmates and coaches.
