Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT? WHO OR WHAT GOT YOU STARTED?
A: Somewhere around 2 and a half years. I was looking to try something new. Driving home one day I saw the Alpine Crossfit sign saying try a free class and thought it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.
Q: TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF: (FAMILY, CAREER, HOBBIES, INTERESTS)
A: Born and raised here in Arvada. Dad’s side of the family lives here in Colorado, mother was from North Dakota. Dad has owned his own bicycle shop called Schwab Cycles for over 30 years, where I work as a mechanic. I have never really enjoyed fitness but my time here at Alpine has definitely changed that, and I find myself going to try new things fitness related. I also really love anything involving music.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: Around when I started I remember doing “Kelly” and not being able to finish it. Then at the end of cycle we did a retest and I was able to finish the 5 rounds. I just loved seeing the progress I had made and drove me to keep pushing to get better.
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR WORKOUT REGIMEN BEFORE JOINING ALPINE?
A: Like I said above, I never really enjoyed fitness, so I had a gym membership but found myself very unmotivated to go a lot. I was going maybe once a week if that. I would also ride into work in the summers but not very consistently.
Q: HOW HAS CROSSFIT AFFECTED YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?
A: It has really helped me feel healthy, not only physically but mentally as well. It also given me confidence to go and try new things.
Q: IF YOU COULD WRITE A BOOK, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
A: I would like to write a fantasy novel. I like the idea of creating my own world, something similar to Lord of the Rings.
Q: WHAT CATEGORY WOULD YOU BE LEAST EXCITED/MOST EXCITED TO SEE ON JEOPARDY?
A: Least would be something like history, most would be music
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST WORKOUT, AND WHAT DID YOU THINK AFTER DOING IT?
A: My first workout was two 1 mile runs for time. I remember Nate joking that I picked a tough first day to start. I must not have absolutely hated it because I kept coming back.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE WOD?
A: Favorite WOD would probably be Cindy, I like body weight movements. Least would have to be something with thrusters.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENTS?
A: Once again thrusters are the worst! I really enjoy gymnastic movements and olympic lifts
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEWBIE JUST GETTING STARTED AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: Just be consistent, even if it’s starting off small. Try and have fun with it because that is what keeps you coming back.
