Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT? WHO OR WHAT GOT YOU STARTED?
A: I started doing CrossFit a little over 6 years ago. I had always worked out but I was recently out of a relationship and a friend suggested looking for a groupon for CrossFit thinking I might meet someone that way. I actually never dated anyone from the gym and met my husband a few months later. But the CrossFit thing worked out too.
Q: TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF: (FAMILY, CAREER, HOBBIES, INTERESTS)
A: I am an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher. My favorite things to do besides CrossFit are snowboarding and mountain biking. I also like working in the yard and going to wineries and breweries.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: My favorite memory is definitely coming in third at Granite Games Throwdown with Erika and Karly. We had done pretty well through the first 3 workouts. During the last workout, Erika’s shoe got stuck on the rower and I got a few no reps but we pushed through harder than I thought we could and still placed 4th in the workout. It was pretty funny after we all caught our breaths.
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR WORKOUT REGIMEN BEFORE JOINING ALPINE?
A: Before joining Alpine, I went to another CrossFit gym in Denver. Before that, I was running a lot. I had done some half marathons, triathlons, and did bodybuilding type lifting a few days a week at 24 hour fitness.
Q: HOW HAS CROSSFIT AFFECTED YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?
A: It makes my job a lot easier since I have some students with physical disabilities that need to be lifted. Also, I’m usually the person that gets asked to help carry something.
Q: IF YOU COULD WRITE A BOOK, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
A: I’ve been trying to come up with a children’s book to write. My husband keeps asking me why I’ve been home for 6 weeks (Stay at home order) and I haven’t written a book to make us lots of money.
Q: WHAT CATEGORY WOULD YOU BE LEAST EXCITED/MOST EXCITED TO SEE ON JEOPARDY?
A: Most- I’d probably be pretty good at Harry Potter trivia or children’s literature. Least- physics or chemistry
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST WORKOUT, AND WHAT DID YOU THINK AFTER DOING IT?
A: I remember that there were overhead squats which are still hard for me. When I first started CrossFit, I was somewhat strong and could do pull ups and the overhead squat was pretty defeating. But there is always something to get better at.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE WOD?
A: It’s hard to narrow it down. I really like Annie, Diane and Grace. I hate Karen and Isabel.
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEWBIE JUST GETTING STARTED AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: My advice for a CrossFit newbie, don’t be intimidated. We have a supportive community and great coaches that will make sure you are doing the movements safely. Before I started CrossFit, I had a hard time justifying the price when I knew how to work out on my own. But now I look forward to seeing my friends at the gym everyday. We hold each other accountable, and most of the time, I don’t have to think about what I’m going to do because someone is going to tell me.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENTS?
A: I love double unders, pull ups, and barbell cycling. Thrusters and wall walks have always been my least favorite. Snatches are forever difficult for me.
