What's Your Name?
How long have you been doing CrossFit? Who or what got you started?
I started crossfit in 2011 as a way to break up a 90 minute work commute in California. I was getting bored with running and missed the higher intensity workouts from lacrosse practices.
Tell us a little bit about yourself: (Family, career, hobbies, interests)
I grew up in Minnesota and went college in Norcal. I studied & work in neurosurgery, currently selling surgical instrumentation & cranial implants. When I’m not fitnessing, I’m fishing.
What is your favorite memory at Alpine CrossFit?
Painting the green walls white :) Long grind/hero workouts with a big crew. Legends Comp where I first met Annie Brunner.
What was your workout regimen before joining Alpine?
Before crossfit I trained distance running 3 x week. High rep sets to failure of light weight. No variability at all.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the gym?
It’s an outlet for my energy and a support system in good and bad times. Most importantly, it has helped me stay mentally tough and never accept complacency.
If you could write a book, what would it be about?
The reasons that black licorice is the best candy.
What category would you be least excited/most excited to see on Jeopardy?
I could identify Aquatic Bugs or Brain Tumors. I would not want to see: Tik Tok influencers, War History.
What was your first workout, and what did you think after doing it?
Helen: I remember dry heaving in the bushes after.
What is your favorite and least favorite WOD?
Kalsu and Miller Time are two of my favorites. Also the most horrible.
What are your favorite and least favorite movements?
Likes: toes to rings, burpee deadlifts. Dislikes: split jerks, v-ups, heavy wall balls.
What advice would you give a newbie just getting started at Alpine CrossFit?
Everybody at every level scales and modifies. You do you.
