Q: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING CROSSFIT? WHO OR WHAT GOT YOU STARTED?
A: I started at Alpine in August 2013. I had been running quite a few long relays and races and was simply burned out spending so much time training. I wanted something new. Alpine had great reviews and it was close to my house.
Q: TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF: (FAMILY, CAREER, HOBBIES, INTERESTS)
A: In 1994 I packed a U-Haul and had $1,000 in my pocket and moved to CO from NY by myself. My husband and I have been married for almost 20 years, we have a 17 year old daughter, and two shih tzus. I've worked at the colorado school of mines for almost 15 years and am the director of research development. I love cooking (and eating!), traveling, being outside, reading, and watching any crappy show my daughter tells me to watch to spend time with her.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: So many! Celebrating 5:30 am birthdays with bloody Mary's! I love those guys!
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR WORKOUT REGIMEN BEFORE JOINING ALPINE?
A: Oh boy, the way back machine. I did a lot of Jazzercise when I first moved to CO in 1994. Yep, jazzercise and I still have the wrap around weights. Lots of bootcamps, 5ks, 10ks, a couple of 1/2 marathons. I did a triathlon in 2009 and the swimming portion was an embarrassment. Turns out I am more of a floater in a pool with a cocktail. And I don't understand water exercise.
Q: HOW HAS CROSSFIT AFFECTED YOUR LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE GYM?
A: I can carry a lot more groceries at once. Functional Fitness! And my husband thinks I should be doing a lot more physical labor around the house.
Q: IF YOU COULD WRITE A BOOK, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?
A: How fast life goes. It is truly unbelievable that I have been at Alpine for over 7 years.
Q: WHAT CATEGORY WOULD YOU BE LEAST EXCITED/MOST EXCITED TO SEE ON JEOPARDY?
A: Least = Physics / Most = Food
Q: WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST WORKOUT, AND WHAT DID YOU THINK AFTER DOING IT?
A: Some of you know this. I can't remember the work out but i do remember going in for a free Saturday class (Foust was teaching) and as i pulled in to park a very fit woman came running out of the garage doors and threw up next to the building. I thought hard about leaving. So glad I didn't.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE WOD?
A: Favorite = Weightlifting then accessory work. Least Favorite = the only WOD that came close to making me throw up was a few years ago. It was a list of something like 10 different barbell movements, 20 reps each movement and at the top of each minute you had to do 4 burpees. Holy hell that was terrible.
Q: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOVEMENTS?
A: Favorite = power cleans/deadlifts Least = you all know it's burpees.
Q: WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A NEWBIE JUST GETTING STARTED AT ALPINE CROSSFIT?
A: Listen to your coaches, listen to your body and have fun!
